A look back in time – before call centres, the PMG put us through!
What happened before call centres? Some of us may be old enough to remember, we rang the exchange and they put us through! It was run by the Post Master General (PMG) all those years ago! A walk down memory lane via Sydney’s Daily Telegraph newspaper (Saturday19October2019) – featuring some ‘originals’ who worked at the Sydney GPO – the centre of communications for NSW & Australia in the 50s and 60s.
A telegram centre, telephone switchboard, emergency services router – services “given by real people”, like Gloria Cochrane and her good friend Gloria Velleley. You’ll recognise the iconic Martin Place building – formerly the Westin Hotel Sydney – relaunched this past weekend as The Fullerton Hotel Sydney. For a laugh, many may also be old enough to remember the brilliant TV show of the 1970s, “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In” and the hilarious, inimitable Ernestine (played by Lily Tomlin) of the telephone company. An absolute classic! Contact us at Citrus Group for the best of 21st century roles in contact and call centres.
